All construction ventures whether major or minor cannot be complete without the use of concrete.Concrete is found in all places imaginable. At homes, concrete can be found in surfaces such as floors, patio or the driveways. Concrete is preferred because of its strength and cost effectiveness.
Most modern homes today use concrete or cement driveways. It can be considered as part of the landscape outside the home because the concrete can make the house look attractive and elegant looking. They are less expensive than brick driveways and do not require regular upkeep because no yearly resealing is needed unlike that of asphalt or blacktop driveways. There are different types of concrete driveways:
The basic and cheapest type of concrete which is the plain concrete comes in a plain colour and best suits those with limited budget but looking for a durable driveway.
For a granite look, choose exposed aggregate concrete which uses materials that can be likened to granite although it requires polishing to expose its beauty. In the case of exposed aggregate concrete, pigment or other building materials still needs to be added to provide new colour, texture or design to the concrete. The concrete is poured the regular way into the area of the driveway but the top layer is washed gently thus exposing some of the aggregate.
The most expensive driveway costs double or triple the price of the plain concrete is the decorative or stamped concrete. Stamped concrete driveways allows a lot of freedom because it allows the homeowner to choose the colour and texture of their driveways depending on the colour and style they prefer.During construction of decorative concrete driveways, cement is poured in the area which is already framed with boards, then patterns are applied to the concrete before it dries up and pigment is added to the stamped concrete so that the pattern or style will really show.
Plain concrete can also be used as a basic material for the construction of a patio because it is very affordable and easy to maintain. Once you are ready to change from plain concrete, you can add a new layer of other patio material and allow plain concrete to act as a foundation layer. This offers a strong foundation and prevent surface cracking.
Coloured or stamped concrete can be made to look like other types of patio material such as brick, cut stone, irregular stone, and cobblestone by moulding or stamping. It comes in various textures and colours and is cheap making it a very practical solution when working on a budget.
